Dear students,

This years masterclass in the masters of Autonomous Design, named "Int'l Stomachs", investigates how we can creatively contribute to installing short supply chains for growing and distributing food locally.
... Taking into account: ... our globalised tastes and eating customs, non-seasonal vegetable types we expect on our plate throughout the year, and ecological habitats under threat of industrialisation and profit.
How to line up contemporary city-life and its conveniences with the ideals of local, organic, bio, autonomous farmers, their modest means and integer ways of producing food for our 'international stomachs' ?

The masterclass is guided by Amy Franceschini, artist/ eco designer and initiator of Future Farmers, a reputed group of dispersed artists thinking about food in the anthropocene era, (http://www.futurefarmers.com/)

Participants will be involved in a hands-on way.
The masterclass experiments with the perimeters for short supply chains for food that is grown around Gent.

We work with bio farm De Goedinge in Afsnee, and connect to their clients in the city of Gent. Among others, we investigate how to rethink the flat bottom boat they are currently using, which runs on solarpower, and where its docking stations in Gent.
Throughout the masterclass you connect this hands-on research to your own interests and work.

We have space available to join if this topic interests you.

The first dates are very soon:
Thursday 5 October at 10:00 we meet with Amy at De Zaal. (Nonnemeerstraat 26)
Amy will give an overview and introduction to Future Farmers and the project.

Thursday 12 October we plan a trip to bio farm De Goedinge.
More info follows on the 5th.

(and 14 October, which is a Saturday, so completely optional, you are welcome to join a collective harvest party at autonomous bio-farm 'de Groentelaar', just outside Brussels. It is completely amazing.

After this introduction phase, there is time to work out your own proposal.

In Spring 2024, the Masterclass work will be integrated in the 404/ Vooruit festival Ecopolis, with a set presentation on 9 March.

Partners in the project are: De Koer, 404, De Goedinge.

Can you bring some examples of work you are doing, and one specific item that reflects your interest in this topic ?

If you are attending KASK, but outside Autonomous Design, you probably will not get credits for it. But if you engage with the trajectory, I am very sure it will be a worthwhile experience and learning trajectory.
